The fourth and final day of Oppenheimer Week was capped with some exciting match that came down to the wire and the upshot after four days of magnificent schoolboy cricket was that Michaelhouse and Affies ended up with 100 win records.

The Affies versus Westville clash at Varsity was a T20 affair – coaches were given the option on the final day of deciding in which format their match was to be played. The two outstanding sides of the Week had gone into the encounter both having secured three wins from three starts.

Westville batted first and totalled 145 for eight in their 20 overs with the consistent Nicholas Pentz (39) and captain Luke Schlemmer (37) getting the top scores. Affies skipper Leus du Plooy (two for 18) and the consistent Diaan Vorster (two for 30) were the standout bowlers.

In reply, Affies paced their innings well after a good start with the top scores going to Gerrit de Graaff (31) and Gerhard Jansen van Vuuren (39) as the lads from Pretoria won by six wickets.

Michaelhouse scored 147 for six in their T20 match against Grey College with Bradley Robberts (67) and Dale Beckley (45) the main contributors. And it was the ever-consistent Luke Stevens (four for 21) who did the damage for Michaelhouse with the ball as Grey fell eight runs short.

Two further highlights of the day were the superb centuries by Maritzburg College’s Shaun Wormington and St John’s College’s Liam Peters, which capped another memorable festival of schoolboy cricket that would have done all the participants over the past 54 years proud.

The Kearsney College clash with Hudson Park was a thriller with Kearsney winning off the last ball while DHS fell agonisingly short by just two runs against KES, while St Davids edged st Charles by two runs and St Stithians shaded Northwood by five runs.
